Immigrants at Ease Make the Antiracists Uneasy

Two years ago, I took a visiting German colleague to a Diwali dinner at an Indian friend’s house in the UK. The guests were a mixed bunch, mostly Southeast Asian but several English and mixed-race couples. The serving staff were English.

On the drive back, we spoke about immigration and assimilation. Angela Merkel’s opening of the borders for Syrian refugees was being hotly contested and we discussed the Turkish versus Indian subcontinent migration patterns in Germany and UK respectively. My friend remarked: “in 50 years of living in Germany, I have never been to a party where immigrants were served by native Germans”.

He said this without rancour, malice or upset. He was genuinely surprised that immigrant groups in the UK were not only successful enough to hire English staff, the English staff did not seem to resent this. We spoke about class, wealth, privilege and other markers of hierarchy. Like me, our Indian hosts were first-generation immigrants from India; they had not arrived in the UK with privileges, and UK society had not held them back. They were at ease with England, and England seemed to be at ease with them.

This is not how certain sections of our society see themselves. We are told that England is a nasty place full of thick, racist xenophobes. Racism and xenophobia apparently “runs through society “ https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/jul/01/britain-racism-safety-pins-brexit-migrants-xenophobic; a “frenzy of hatred” has overtaken society since Brexit https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/jun/29/frenzy-hatred-brexit-racism-abuse-referendum-celebratory-lasting-damage; black people were first dehumanised and now racist experiences are being denied https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/jan/24/white-people-tv-racism-afua-hirsch; and if a black man enjoys sex with white women, it is because his self-esteem is low   https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2018/jan/13/black-woman-always-fetishised-racism-in-bedroom. Whiteness, in this worldview, is a form of psychosis, “framed by irrationality and beyond any rational engagement” http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0021934716638802?journalCode=jbsa.

The biggest logical problem with such assertions is that they are non-falsifiable. This is how an argument would go between a race warrior and an English person:  You are a racist; No, I am not. Yes, you are; No, I am not. You are denying it; No, I am not denying it, I genuinely am not racist; This is a typical denial of a racist….…..and on and on. A tautology rather than a proven fact, which simply asserts that to be English is to be either racist or in denial.

Like all extremists, antiracists revel in their self-righteous superiority which blinds them and protects them from any self-doubt.  Like racists, they see all human beings through the distorting prism of race. England is full racist thickos, and EU utopian. But why do they so yearn to be subjugated by EU laws? Do they really believe that the only protection against barbarism in Britain is the restraining leash of ECHR? If EU controls are taken away, England will reveal its true nasty colours?

I have worked all over Europe. I have visited Molenbeek in Belgium, the northern suburbs of Paris and experienced the changing face of Malmo in Sweden. These are not citizens and societies at ease with themselves.  Norbert Hofer of Austria’s Freedom Party, the leaders of Alternative for Germany, the Danish People’s party, the resurgent right in Hungary and Poland, are all visible reminders of how far Britain has travelled down the road towards a genuinely tolerant society and how far behind Europe is.

This, of course, means nothing to those who willfully or naively continue to cast Britain as a uniquely unpleasant place with a uniquely wicked history. Orwell wrote in England Your England: “the English intelligentsia are Europeanized. They take their cookery from Paris and their opinions from Moscow. In the general patriotism of the country, they form a sort of island of dissident thought. England is perhaps the only great country whose intellectuals are ashamed of their own nationality. In left-wing circles, it is always felt that there is something slightly disgraceful in being an Englishman and that it is a duty to snigger at every English institution, from horse racing to suet puddings. It is a strange fact, but it is unquestionably true that almost any English intellectual would feel more ashamed of standing to attention during ‘God save the King’ than of stealing from a poor box.”

One would be perfectly happy for the English antiracists to perpetually loathe themselves, hate their country, despise their fellow White citizens, and feel intelligent and virtuous on the back of their self-contempt. Why should anyone deny them their little pleasures? The problem of course is that this self-flagellation is not done in private; it is conducted in public, overtly signalling to non-Whites: this country is bad for you. Every bad thing that happens to you is because of your skin colour. And if you feel at ease with yourself and Britain, then you need re-educating.

I am black. I have lived in south east England for 19 years and never experienced racism. What I have noticed in recent years, especially working in London, is that those on the left, expect me to be a victim. The left loves ethnic minorities to remain in a state of victimhood as it suits their purpose. We’re expected to feel constantly oppressed because we are told Britian is racist to the core. Notice how Trevor Phillips is now finding himself shunned shamed online for daring to offer a balanced opinion. When ethnics display right-leaning views or express pride in British culture, this really upsets the virtue signallers. We then find ourselves being shamed, along with white conservatives, for “wrongthink.” I was labelled a “coconut” and “choc ice” for raising concerns about black on black gang crime in London, a growing problem that nobody will face up to because of fears of being labelled racist.
